The purpose of the present article is revealing difference in the electroimpedance
image of the lungs in different phases of a respiratory cycle at spontaneous
respiration and at artificial ventilation of the lungs. We have used 16-
electrodes one-frequency (8êÃö, 0,5mÀ) EIT-system, designed Institute of
Radioengineering and Electronics of RAS (Korjenevsky et al, 1997). The aluminum
and steel circle electrodes with 6 and 20 mm diameter were fixed around of a
thorax with the help of a rubber belt at a level 3-4 rib(s interval to make
the measurements. 7 healthy men, 20 healthy newborn in the age from 2 till 7
day and 3 newborn on artificial and assisted ventilation of the lungs are
examined. The electroimpedance image of the adult were generated on inspiraton,
expiration and at free respiration (in a mode "cinema"), the registration of
the EIT-image of the lungs for newborn was made at free respiration and at
artificial and assisted ventilation of the lungs. In the article el!
ectroimpedance "anatomy" of organs of a thorax is presented. The qualitative and
quantitative features of the EIT-image of the lungs in different phases of a
respiratory cycle are indicated. The EIT-image of the newborns lungs in
different phases of a respiratory cycle are presented during artificial and
assisted ventilation of the lungs. For comparison of the conductivity values
of the lungs we used a Student criteria. The article is illustrated by
electroimpedance tomograms and tables.
